Summer or winters, every season is a perfect season for a Garden Party, especially in Delhi! Why? Let’s Find out!
Garden parties are special, not just because of the naturally available décor (hello, plants!), but also because the fresh air keeps your nostrils free from the overwhelming fragrances of food or people. The lush flora and fauna sprawling across the backyard, coupled with the blue sky overhead, create an unbeatable view for the guests. And if you’re at a party in Delhi, buckle up—you’re in for a joyride!

Now, let’s continue with the story!
Recently, I was invited to a housewarming party by my closest friend. Naturally, the party’s location was her garden. Being the plant lover she is, she was super excited while inviting me. My friend had just moved to Delhi from Mumbai and instantly fell in love with the large property, a stark contrast to Mumbai’s small apartments.
Long story short, she was thrilled to play the perfect host and I was cordially invited. As an introvert, I started mentally preparing myself to face 30-odd people at her home.
The Big Day Unfolds: Expect the Unexpected!
Upon reaching the party location, I was floored by my friend’s taste in party decorations and the immaculate arrangements that she had made. The garden was adorned with twinkling lights and colourful lanterns.
As the guests started to arrive, my friend excused herself to greet them. The flowers were blooming, and a cool breeze was ruffling the stunning hairstyles of pretty ladies. Surrounded by people with zero desire to talk, I found a secluded corner for myself. With curiosity and boredom, I started observing the guests.
The first guest or should I say guests arrived.
1. The Sabyasachi Squad with Gucci Attitude
From short grey haircuts to luscious blonde locks, these ladies in their 50s were gorgeous in their ‘Sabyasachi’ sarees and Gucci bags. They were the epitome of ageless beauty. I was influenced and thought I’d transform into their xerox at their age. However, their snobbish comments on everything on the menu were frustrating. I decided it’s better to look average and be compassionate than to have impeccable style and a hollow heart.
2. Punjabi Party Crashers: Whisky Business and Wedding Whirls!
Parties in Delhi are incomplete without Punjabis. They are the life of the party, bringing joy and making everyone enjoy the moment. One of my friend’s uncles got the happiest news and the shock of his life when his son told him he wants to get married. Exhilarated, uncle shared his happiness with everyone by raising a toast and ensuring everyone got a taste of the most expensive whiskey by asking his driver to buy one from the nearby market.
Fifteen minutes later, his son told him that the girl is pregnant and they need to get married soon. The driver returned with the bottle just as uncle processed the news. The shock was less about the pregnancy and more about the price of the bottle. My friend had to intervene before uncle’s son got a Punjabi punch from his dad.
3. The Unforgettable Gig of Mr. Mishra
As the evening was getting more colourful with sunset hues, the lanterns and fair lights came to light. Enters Mr. Mishra in the scene in his vibrant floral kurta that can make you go blind. He is the landlord and also the joint secretary of RWA. Known for his out-of-tune singing skills and quirky sense of humour, he announced that he would like to sing one song.
And as he made his way to microphone, he tipped over its cord, sending the mic stand toppling over. Although, he caught himself out just in time, but knocked down the dessert table, sending them up in the air. The sweets rained down over the guests, including aunties from South Delhi. Mr. Mishra stood up and proclaimed, “Dessert is on me, folks!” His wits and charm had everyone in stitches, including me!
So, yes! Garden Party can be stressful for introverts like me, but truth be told it can be an ecstatic experience especially when the location is Delhi.
